A woman was left embarrassed by the stench coming from her washing machine, but fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch came to the rescue by recommending a way to deep clean the machine

Ah, the smell of fresh laundry. There's nothing quite like the whiff of it. But there's nothing worse than opening your washing machine door and noticing that there's a vile smell lingering - one that's akin to rotten eggs.

If you've noticed that your washing machine has started to smell less than ideal, don't panic, because Mrs Hinch fans have claimed there's a way to get it smelling as good as new in no time, and the "amazing solution" will remove the nasty odours in just one wash cycle.

From mould and mildew buildup, there are many reasons why your washing machine may stink.

But there's an 80p method that can stop the stench, and people took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group to share the way to do it.

A woman desperately took to the Facebook group to ask for advice, writing: "So embarrassed by this. My washing machine is suddenly smelling like rotten eggs when the water is going in.

"What can I do to solve this? I use Calgon tablets every two weeks but think I need to get something to properly clean it. Any ideas?"

And the most popular method of deep cleaning was with soda crystals and white vinegar.

Someone wrote: "Have you cleaned the filter, normally at the bottom of the machine?

"Then do the hottest wash you can, preferably 90 degrees, and put soda crystals in the drum and white vinegar in the powder section."

Another added: "It's stale water that smells like rotten eggs. Put a hot wash on with no detergents at all, just soda crystals and white vinegar.

"You'll be totally surprised at the amount of soapy dirty water that's inside the drum.

"It was a tip from a washing machine engineer and it works. It's an amazing solution."

Dri Pak Fine Soda Crystals can be purchased from some supermarkets for just 80p.
